The Hired Man - 30th May to 2nd June 2007

Six men have a plan to get their lives back together, but it requires them to triumph over their fears, their nerves and their clothes!
This wonderful show sizzles with heat and heart as six unemployed factory workers boldly bare all to earn money and self-esteem. But more than just flesh is revealed when these blue collar men strip away their insecurities to forge a hilarious and unique bond that exposes the male viewpoint of acceptance, love, and the importance of communication.
With a mix of razor-sharp humour and toe-tapping pizzazz, this ten-time Tony Award nominee is musical comedy at its most heart-warming.

Music and Lyrics by David Yazbek
Book by Terrence McNally
Based on the motion picture released by Fox Searchlight Pictures

N&N THRESHOLD THEATRE GROUP - THE FULL MONTY
Director Greg Fitch
Musical Director Andy Lofthouse
Choreography Tracey Evans

Playhouse Theatre, Norwich. 28 May

Not Oliver or Annie but Full Monty to guarantee a theatre sell-out week! Certainly the age range in the audience was younger and more vibrant than for most shows; in fact I wondered whether I had strayed into one of the Norwich Riverside Nightclubs when looking around at the audience!
Good strong casting for the production, certainly the experience of N&N West Side Story must have helped the team of six young men in some quite demanding roles, the different characters were well drawn for the piece. Voices of good quality and MD Andy Lofthouse did well with the score both vocally and orchestrally. I have not seen the stage show before, so had not realised there would be some good roles for the lead girls and quite a lot for the chorus (and principals) to sing and dance, the whole show filled with pulsating energy, and synchronised movement, and great fun for all, certainly the cast appeared to be enjoying themselves. Must also congratulate the backstage for coping with Scenic Projects set on that stage, not certain where they managed to store the mini! And an exciting lighting plot to add to the whole aspect of the show, a good evening. A show highly suitable for Threshold Group with the right age group to participate; and definitely approached with a lively attack and sense of teamwork and fun; just could not believe the sell-out audience and the enthusiasm and noise generated in the auditorium!
